PCWorld has updated its 2026 laptop recommendations, drawing on reviews of more than 70 laptops each year and testing that combines everyday use with performance benchmarks. The guide covers options for several needs, from affordable everyday computing to gaming and portability, and was revised in November to reflect current prices and retailers.

The Acer Aspire 16 AI is PCWorld’s top overall pick. Its 16-inch OLED screen, lightweight 3.23-pound design, broad selection of ports and solid general performance are among its strengths. In testing, it lasted 11 hours and 47 minutes. PCWorld notes that the keyboard may take some getting used to and the display could be brighter.

For shoppers seeking a lower-priced laptop, the guide recommends the MacBook Neo. Starting at $599, it has an A18 Pro processor, 8GB of memory, a 256GB SSD and a 13-inch Liquid Retina display. PCWorld says it is well suited to everyday tasks, while pointing to limitations including slower multi-core performance, no P3 color support and differences between its USB-C ports.

The Alienware 16X Aurora is the gaming pick, with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 graphics and a 16-inch, 240Hz display. For a more affordable gaming option, PCWorld highlights the Acer Nitro V 16 AI, which pairs an RTX 5050 with a 180Hz screen. The publication reports an average of 72 frames per second in Cyberpunk 2077 for the Nitro, while noting its weaker CPU performance and poor built-in audio.

Other category winners include the Acer Swift 16 AI for college, the Microsoft Surface Pro for lightweight use, the Dell 14S for battery life, the Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 for ChromeOS buyers and the Framework Laptop 13 for people who want an upgradeable device. PCWorld measured nearly 36 hours of offline video playback on the Dell 14S, while the Acer Swift 16 AI lasted 17.5 hours in its testing.

The guide also lists the Asus ProArt P16, HP Googlebook 14, MSI Stealth 16 AI+ and Acer Googlebook 14 as other models worth considering. It advises against the Lenovo Googlebook 15, Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i and Dell 16S, citing concerns that include price or weaker value compared with alternatives.
