LZ4 1.11 brings multithreaded compression to liblz4, allowing applications that use the library to take advantage of multiple CPU cores. The feature follows LZ4 1.10, which first added multithreading to the lz4 command-line tool.

A new library field lets applications set the number of workers or threads used for compression. The project reports promising results from tests on an AMD EPYC server.

The command-line tool also gains a --memory option, which can keep multithreaded compression within a specified memory budget. LZ4 1.11 includes further improvements over version 1.10. More details are available on the project’s GitHub page.
