The Linux Plumbers Conference blog has published a report on its sched_ext microconference, held in Prague. Discussions focused on three areas: priority inversion, paravirtualized scheduling, and task placement informed by devices and system topology.

For priority inversion, participants discussed preempting lock holders and lock waiters, extending time slices, and enabling proxy execution to work with BPF schedulers.

The paravirtualized scheduling discussion examined how host and guest schedulers could coordinate across a virtual machine boundary, with sched_ext serving as the host-side policy engine.

The third area was device- and topology-aware scheduling. Topics included using Intel HFI hardware feedback, device and accelerator locality, and cache topology to guide where tasks run.
