Greg Kroah-Hartman has announced the release of the 7.2.15 kernel, which arrives with a handful of updates. The maintainer used the announcement to confirm that this is the last release in the 7.2.y series, and that the 7.2.y kernel tree is now end-of-life.

Users still running the 7.2.y branch are being asked to move to 7.3.y at this time.

Kroah-Hartman acknowledged that the branch reached end-of-life somewhat sooner than normal. He explained the decision by pointing to the current release cycle and the number of pending cc: stable patches in the queue, saying he considered it better to close out 7.2.y so attention could focus on the latest 7.3.y release. Keeping the 7.2.y branch alive, he noted, would have meant maintaining eight different branches at the same moment, which he described as a taxing task under the best of times.
