FreeRDP 3.33 has been released as the latest version of the open-source implementation of Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Protocol. The update completes several years of work toward Emscripten and WebAssembly support, allowing FreeRDP to run in a web browser when compiled to WebAssembly.
The release also improves the SDL client and adds experimental UDP support for direct RDP connections. Unicode keyboard input pipes are now supported by all clients, while experimental support has been added for a Windows shadow server.
On macOS, file clipboard support no longer depends on FUSE. FreeRDP 3.33 also introduces initial support for translating messages.
The project said it experienced a substantial increase in pull requests and bug or regression feedback associated with AI and large language model activity. Because of the resulting backlog, the developers plan to issue a patch release addressing remaining minor issues and bugs.
FreeRDP 3.33 includes 13 known security fixes. Downloads and additional details are available through the project’s GitHub repository.
