Fedora 45 has been released as the latest six-month update to the Linux distribution, following two release delays. The release adds KMSCON in place of the in-kernel console and introduces Stratis Storage support in the Anaconda installer.

The update also improves support for Qualcomm Snapdragon X laptops. For security, Fedora 45 restricts ptrace by default and enables signature checking by default. It also expects package builds to be reproducible.

A new DRM Panic front end is intended to provide a more accessible experience when kernel problems occur. Fedora Workstation 45 includes the GNOME 51 desktop, while the release updates key development and system components, including Go 1.27, Python 3.15, GCC 16.2, Glibc 2.44, LLVM 23 and RPM 6.1.

Fedora 45 ships with the Linux 7.2 kernel. An update to Linux 7.3 is expected to roll out soon.
